Apothesine was an early injectable anesthetic. Adrenalin was (and still is) mixed with the anesthetic to control bleeding. This remedy was used to induce sweating, in a rather futile attempt to "sweat" out a cold or fever. It contained OPIUM, IPECACUANHA (which is used to prepare IPECAC), and SULPHATE OF POTASH.
