| In an effort to treat diabetes, SWAN-MYERS CHEMICAL COMPANY of INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA designed a capsule that contained ISLANDS OF LANGERHANS. This is the part of the pancreas that contains INSULIN. They faced a problem that researchers still face today. As insulin is inactivated by digestion, how does one get it past the stomach? Swan-Myers thought they had a solution to this with their new invention, KERAKOTE. It was a wonderful, early attempt to get insulin past the stomach. It didn't work, of course, as we still search for an answer to this problem today. Dating to the 1920's, this early remedy retains about 1/4 of its KERAKOTE CAPSULES. It is 5.5" tall. In later years, SWAN-MYERS was acquired by ABBOTT LABORATORIES. Contents are sold only for collector purposes and must not be used in any way.
